Psuedomotor dysfunction frequently predicts diabetic neuropathy. But, what is “psuedomotor dysfunction?”
It’s simply a professional medical term for a collection of symptoms that occur because of your body’s inability to regulate heat. Diabetes can cause your body to have a difficult time tolerating heat, which leads to symptoms such as:
Further, these symptoms worsen when you are in an upright position. When you recline, you’ll notice they subside.
You may even notice these symptoms increase in more specific situations. For example, you can experience excessive sweating around your head, face, neck, and shoulders when you eat non-spicy foods.
As stated at the beginning of this post, psuedomotor dysfunction often predicts one of the four forms of diabetic neuropathy.
The types of diabetic neuropathy include:
Depending on the location, neuropathy causes a number of painful and unpleasant symptoms, including tingling, numbness, burning, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, vomiting, erectile dysfunction, and pain during sex (among many other symptoms).
Research has also found pseudomotor dysfunction is associated with diabetic foot ulcers.
The bottom line is that pseudomotor dysfunction can be a precursor to many more painful physical symptoms later on down the line. It’s not something in your best interest to ignore.
Your typical reaction is probably to feel fear and want to avoid dealing with the new challenges presented by pseudomotor dysfunction.
But, that’s a big mistake. Since it is a reliable predictor of diabetic neuropathy, that means you have a chance to minimize the effects of neuropathy, and perhaps even prevent them altogether.
However, your doctor has to know about your pseudomotor dysfunction symptoms in order to help you.
And since you now have an idea of what those symptoms are like, and what they could mean for you if ignored, you can take proactive action so you avoid unnecessary pain and suffering.
So, if you notice any symptoms of pseudomotor dysfunction, make sure you get in to see your doctor as soon as possible.
