North Texas Foot & Ankle Uses Cellutome to Make Skin Grafts Faster and Nearly Painless
Non-healing foot wounds happen. For example, diabetics can get foot ulcers.
In today’s medicine, closing the wound remains the most commonly accepted practice for healing a wound of any kind. What do you do when you have a wound around your feet or ankles that won’t heal on its own?
Cellutome Helps North Texas Foot & Ankle Create a Precise and Reproducible Process That Causes Less Pain
Sometimes, as in the case of diabetic foot ulcers, the best solution for healing your wound is using a skin graft from your own body. Historically, skin grafts have caused a lot of pain, and also disfiguration at the site of removal.
At North Texas Foot & Ankle, however, our experienced podiatrists use Cellutome to make skin grafts fast, consistent, and to minimize their pain. The pain is so minor you don’t even need to use anesthesia. And Cellutome causes minimal trauma to the removal area.
How Does Cellutome Work?
Hair is removed from your inner thigh, where the harvester will eventually be placed. 70% isopropyl alcohol is used to clean the site. The harvester is then attached to your inner mid-thigh via a velcro strap. The vacuum head is then attached to the harvester.
The harvester is already attached to the Cellutome unit via a cord. For the next 30-45 minutes, Cellutome goes through the process of harvesting micrografts from your skin. That time can vary by individual.
Applying the graft to your body takes just 2-3 minutes. The entire procedure takes about an hour.
Immediately following the procedure, you’ll see visible signs of the graft. For the typical patient, it’s common for any evidence of the skin removed to disappear two weeks after the procedure.
However, be aware that this can vary by individual, and seek consultation by your podiatrist to confirm you are a candidate for this in office procedure.
